Dora Maar by Pablo Picasso

Dora Maar, born Markovitch to a Yugoslav mother and father, was raised in Argentina. Although an accomplished photographer, model and painter herself, she is most well-known as the mistress of Pablo Picasso. He met her in 1936 at a café in Paris, France.

Picasso often called Dora Maar “the Weeping Woman”, which this painting obviously depicts. This is one of many Dora Maar portraits and has as dramatic use of color and style, which tries to highlight the emotion in this illustration.
